Ceramic painting game - Bird from Byzantine mosaic
Detail from a mosaic floor of a church in Thessaloniki. It is dated to the 6th century A.D. Museum of Byzantine Culture, ThessalonikI. The decoration of churches was largely determined by socio-economic conditions in the various regions. Thus, decoration was richer in the large urban centers and poorer in the periphery. The floors of country churches were usually covered in mosaics and their walls decorated with wall paintings, while in the more luxurious churches marble floors, wall mosaics, and marble revetments were customary.
